Some lobby groups are vehemently opposing use of agrochemicals in Kenya. What impact will such a ban have on the country’s agriculture?
Commercial agricultural production depends on use of pest control products to manage insect pests and diseases including weeds. Over 95% of commercial agricultural production use agrochemicals and only 2-3% engage in organic production. Pest attacks to crops are responsible for over 50% loss to crop with additional 30% loss during storage. Thus banning use of agrochemicals will kill Kenya’s agriculture.
